Cryotherapy uses controlled freezing to treat suitable benign skin lesions, including skin tags and selected warts. Dr Knight will first assess your concern, explain the available options and establish whether cryotherapy is appropriate. You will have time to understand the expected course, healing process and possible outcomes before deciding how to proceed. Treatment and follow-up remain with Dr Knight, providing continuity and reassurance throughout your care. Where a lesion needs further investigation, she will explain the appropriate next steps.
Removal of benign skin lesions for cosmetic reasons is no longer routinely offered as a standard NHS procedure. NHS treatment is generally reserved for lesions that meet specific clinical criteria.
Dr Ayanna Knight provides a private, doctor-led service for the assessment and CryoPen™ treatment of suitable benign skin lesions, including skin tags, warts, verrucae and seborrhoeic keratoses.

Cryotherapy is a non-surgical treatment that uses controlled cold to treat selected benign skin lesions. The CryoPen™ delivers a precise, controlled jet of nitrous oxide to freeze the targeted tissue while limiting treatment of the surrounding skin.
No incision is required. Depending on the lesion, treatment is usually brief and may be carried out during the same appointment following assessment.
Suitability depends on the type, size, location and clinical appearance of the lesion, together with your skin type and individual risk factors.

CryoPen™ allows selected skin lesions to be treated precisely without an incision and usually without the need for local anaesthetic. Treatment is generally brief, and suitable lesions can often be assessed and treated during the same appointment.
The fine, controlled jet of nitrous oxide targets the selected lesion while limiting treatment of the surrounding skin. Where appropriate, several lesions may be treated during one session.

During treatment, the CryoPen™ delivers a precise application of nitrous oxide to freeze and progressively reduce the selected benign skin lesion. Treatment follows a freeze-thaw-freeze protocol: the lesion is frozen for a several seconds, allowed to thaw briefly and then frozen again. The duration of each application is tailored to the type, size and location of the lesion.
Following treatment, the area may sting or feel sore, and temporary redness, swelling or blistering can occur. Over the following days, the treated lesion may darken and form a crust before gradually separating from the skin. This usually takes approximately 1-3 weeks, although healing can take longer in some areas.
The result is assessed once the area has fully healed. A complimentary clinical review is typically arranged 3-4 weeks after treatment. Healing and treatment response are assessed at each review, with further Cryotherapy provided where safe and appropriate.

DOCTOR-LED ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT
Every Cryotherapy consultation and treatment is personally undertaken by Dr Ayanna Knight, providing continuity from initial clinical assessment through to treatment, written aftercare and follow-up reviews.
Before treatment, Dr Knight will assess the lesion, your relevant medical history and any factors that may influence suitability, healing or pigment change. Treatment is recommended only when the lesion appears clinically benign and cryotherapy is appropriate.
Lesions that are uncertain, changing or suspicious, or that require histological assessment, are not treated with cryotherapy. Where appropriate, an alternative treatment pathway or further assessment will be advised.

WHAT CAN BE TREATED WITH CRYOTHERAPY?
Cryotherapy may be suitable for a range of clinically benign skin lesions, including moles, skin tags, viral warts, verrucae, seborrhoeic keratoses, milia, cherry angiomas and selected other benign lesions.
Suitability depends on the diagnosis, type, size, location and clinical appearance of each lesion. Every lesion is assessed before treatment.
Several suitable lesions can often be treated during one appointment. The number of treatments required depends on the size, nature and location of the lesion and how it responds. Healing and treatment response are assessed at each review, with further Cryotherapy provided where safe and appropriate.

CAN KELOID AND HYPERTROPHIC SCARS BE TREATED WITH CRYOTHERAPY?
Keloid and hypertrophic scars develop when excess scar tissue forms following an injury to the skin. A hypertrophic scar remains within the original wound area, while a keloid extends beyond it and may continue to grow. Both can become raised, firm, itchy or uncomfortable.
Cryotherapy may be suitable for selected keloid and hypertrophic scars. Treatment aims to progressively flatten and soften the scar and reduce associated itching or irritation. It cannot completely remove the scar, response varies and more than one treatment may be required. Keloids can also recur following treatment.
Before recommending treatment, Dr Knight will assess the type, size, location and activity of the scar, together with your symptoms, previous treatments, skin type and individual risk factors. Keloids are more common in darker skin tones, and the potential for prolonged or permanent pigment change following cryotherapy requires particular consideration.
Where cryotherapy is unlikely to provide sufficient benefit, an alternative or combined treatment approach will be advised.
CRYOTHERAPY TREATMENT GUIDE

Cryotherapy may be suitable for many skin lesions, but it is not appropriate for every lesion or every patient. Suitability depends on the diagnosis, type, size, location and clinical appearance of the lesion, together with your medical history, skin type and any factors that may influence healing or pigment change.
Dr Knight will assess these factors before advising whether cryotherapy is appropriate. If further assessment or an alternative treatment pathway would be more suitable, this will be explained.

Immediately after treatment, the area may sting or feel sore. Temporary redness, swelling or blistering can occur. Over the following days, the treated lesion may darken and form a crust before gradually separating from the skin. The area should be allowed to heal naturally without picking.
Healing usually takes approximately 1-3 weeks, although some lesions and treatment areas take longer. The newly healed skin may initially appear pink, lighter or darker than the surrounding skin, and pigment change can sometimes persist.
Written aftercare will be provided. Sun-exposed areas should be protected with broad-spectrum SPF 50 while healing, and you can contact Dr Knight directly if you have any concerns.

Where more than one treatment is required, improvement develops progressively across the treatment course.

The treatment cost includes all follow-up reviews, together with any further Cryotherapy required for the assessed lesion during that treatment course. Although complete removal is the intended outcome, individual response varies and it cannot be guaranteed in every case.

The clinic provides a discreet, doctor-led service for selected skin lesions affecting intimate areas, including genital skin tags, genital warts and pearly penile papules.
These concerns are common, and appointments are handled sensitively and without judgement. Dr Ayanna Knight personally undertakes every consultation, assessment and treatment within a private clinic setting. Treatment is recommended only when the lesion is suitable for Cryotherapy following assessment.
Written aftercare and follow-up reviews are included, with further Cryotherapy provided where safe and appropriate. You will also have direct access to Dr Knight should you have any concerns during healing.
WHAT DEVICE DOES THE CLINIC USE FOR CRYOTHERAPY?
Dr Ayanna Knight uses the CryoPen™ X, a precision cryotherapy device that delivers a fine, controlled jet of nitrous oxide directly to the selected lesion. This allows treatment to be carefully targeted while limiting exposure of the surrounding skin.
The duration and intensity of each application are adjusted according to the size, nature and location of the lesion, together with the treatment area and individual clinical considerations.

Cryotherapy is a well-established medical procedure used in general practice and dermatology. When performed following appropriate assessment, it is generally well tolerated.
Common short-term effects include stinging or discomfort, redness, swelling, blistering and crusting. Temporary changes in skin colour may also occur. Less common risks include infection, delayed healing, persistent lightening or darkening of the skin, scarring, temporary altered sensation or incomplete removal.
Before proceeding, Dr Knight assesses the lesion, your relevant medical history and whether Cryotherapy is likely to provide sufficient benefit. Treatment is tailored to the lesion and its location, written aftercare is provided, and healing is monitored through follow-up reviews.

Your first appointment begins with a medical consultation and focused clinical assessment with Dr Knight.
Where the lesion is suitable for Cryotherapy and sufficient treatment time has been reserved, treatment can usually be carried out during the same visit. If further assessment is required, or Cryotherapy is not the most appropriate option, Dr Knight will explain her findings and advise suitable next steps.
There is no obligation to proceed with treatment.
