OBAGI Retinol is available in two concentrations for your skin’s individual needs. The products effectively and gently minimise the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, refining the skin’s complexion while smoothing uneven skin texture.
HOW DOES RETINOL WORK?
With age, collagen production in the skin reduces significantly and skin cell renewal slows. These factors result in thinner, drier skin with less elasticity. The reduced ability for the skin to repair itself can leave it looking dull, dehydrated and uneven in texture.
Retinol is a vitamin A derivative which effectively increases skin cell turnover. It has been clinically proven in the treatment of photo damaged skin and the signs of aging.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF RETINOL?
Increasing collagen production to plump & hydrate the skin
Reducing photodamage - helping you to look younger
Increasing skin cell turnover time to promote even skin tone & texture
Reducing sebum production
Reducing inflammation & inflammatory conditions like Acne & Rosacea
OBAGI Retinol also contains vitamin C which promotes collagen production and stimulates growth in the skin to even skin tone. Both concentrations are tolerated well as they contain hydrating jojoba oil and shea butter to condition the skin, promoting firmness and elasticity. Vitamins C and E also work to neutralise free radicals.
Research has shown that products with very low concentrations of Retinol have very little if any benefits to the skin however higher concentrations can cause irritation, redness and flaking. OBAGI Retinol is frequently recommended by dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons as it contains a high, effective concentration of Retinol however studies have shown OBAGI's Retinol products cause minimal irritation with no flaking or significant difference in skin dryness. This is achieved by combining the soothing ingredients with entrapped, time released Retinol which is released slowly, minimising irritation.
IS RETINOL RIGHT FOR ME?
OBAGI Retinol is suitable for:
Dry & Sensitive skin
Oily & Acne prone skin
Combination skin types
Hyperpigmented skin including Melasma
WHICH STRENGTH OF RETINOL SHOULD I USE?
OBAGI Retinol is available in 0.5% and 1.0%. Due to the product being very well tolerated by the skin, many clients find the 1.0% concentration suitable for immediate inclusion into their skin care routine.
Dr Ayanna Knight advises that Retinol is applied in the evening following your cleansing routine. Some people may find that they initially suffer from some redness or slight break outs when they start using Retinol. This is due to the skin acclimatising to the product, however these effects are temporary. In these cases, Dr Ayanna Knight advises to apply the product less frequently (every other day) until the skin settles.
Those with extremely sensitive skin should begin by using the 0.5% concentration.
As always, we advice that you use minimum SPF 30 daily to protect your skin against the harmful effects of UV rays and prevent photoaging.
