WHAT IS LED LIGHT THERAPY?

The use of LED (light-emitting-diodes) to effectively treat skin conditions, rejuvenate the skin and aid wound healing is based on significant research by NASA. LED's provide a mechanism for Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT). Light therapy has a multitude of benefits to promote skin health and wellbeing.

LED Phototherapy is a clinically proven treatment which utilises wavelengths of UV-free LED light to remedy a range of medical skin disorders and cosmetic skin concerns. It is a 100% natural therapy with zero side effects.

Our Doctor led clinic uses the market leading OPERA LED Light Mask which safely delivers specific wavelengths of light into the skin, triggering an increase of natural collagen and blood circulation in the treatment area.

HOW DOES LED LIGHT THERAPY WORK?

OPERA LED works.jpg

‘Light Therapy’ is often referred to as ‘phototherapy’ or ‘photo-bio-stimulation’. Phototherapy is the use of light to treat medical conditions. The benefits of for thousands of years, with natural sunlight seen to benefit certain skin disorders.

The problem with such phototherapy is the amount of damage that can be done at the same time. LED light treatment uses pre-selected wavelengths of light to enhance the beneficial results whilst removing the detrimental effects of UV light.

LED Light Therapy works by emitting pure wavelengths of light which are absorbed into the deeper layers of the skin. The skin cells harness this light energy which then stimulates a natural process in each cell elevating the levels of oxygen and nutrients to these areas, removing any waste or dead cells from the skin. This process accelearates skin healing, boosts skin cell turnover and promotes healthy, resilient skin.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF LED LIGHT THERAPY?

  • Stimulation of collagen & elastin
  • Anti-inflammatory effect
  • Increased skin tightening
  • Anti-bacterial effect
  • Increased skin hydration and elasticity
  • Acceleration of wound healing
  • Increased localised blood flow
  • Analgesic (pain reduction) effect

The benefits of Low-Level Light Therapy are numerous and depend on the wavelength of the light being absorbed.  There are varying wavelengths of light emitted, each having a different effect on the skin. During initial consultation with Dr Ayanna Knight a full medical consultation along with a skin health assessment and examination will be carried out to formulate a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.

RED LIGHT THERAPY

Red Light therapy is an every-day term for the science of photobiomodulation or LED light as it is also commonly known. It has been proven in the field of healing & rejuvenation, anti-aging, wound care and pain relief. Red Light therapy at wavelength 630nm, is the preferred option for skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing due to it's ability to stimulate collagen and elastin production in the dermis of the skin. The increase in collagen production strengthens the skin structure and increases the capability of the skin to retain moisture. This increased resilience of the skin is why red light therapy is an effective treatment for Rosacea and to reduce the redness and inflammation associated with broken capillaries and thread veins.

Red Light LED therapy is a natural process with a great deal of benefit and no real known adverse side effects. This specific wavelength of pure light is capable of penetrating the skin to a depth of around 8 to 10 mm. Once absorbed, this Red Light energy is converted to cellular energy. This conversion of energy stimulates the body’s natural processes on a cellular level leading to a series of metabolic events including:

  • Increased circulation
  • Formation of new capillaries
  • Increased lymphatic drainage
  • Increased production of collagen
  • Increased phagocytosis, or cellular clean up
  • Reduced inflammation

This combination of benefits help produce the anti-ageing response in the skin and improve a range of medical skin disorders.

What Can Red LED Light Therapy Treat?

  • Facial redness & broken capillaries
  • Rosacea
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Medical & Acne scars
  • Eczema & Dermatitis
  • Uneven skin tone & texture
  • Sun spots, Freckles & Liver spots
  • Fine lines & wrinkles
  • Sagging skin
  • Spider veins & thread veins
  • Psoriasis

BLUE LIGHT THERAPY

Blue light therapy at 415nm is predominantly used for its anti-bacterial properties and in the main the treatment of acne. The blue light emitted from the device is absorbed by porphyrin. The bacterial causing acne, P.acne contains abundant amounts of porphyrin and when the blue light is absorbed an oxygen free-radical is created which is released into the bacteria and results in bacterial death.

Blue light also has anti-inflammatory characteristics although the best results are seen when combining red and blue light for its additional skin rejuvenation and wound healing benefits.

Infrared light is also known for its effect on skin as is emitted at 830nm and penetrates much deeper than the red light and the blue light meaning an ability to promote the healing of wounds and pain relief

LED results are clinical proven and whilst the results are not as dramatic as plastic surgery or laser treatments, it is gentler, more natural, less expensive and offers zero downtime.

WHAT LED SYSTEM DOES THE CLINIC USE?

Our Doctor led clinic uses the world renowned OPERA LED Mask. This innovative LED System has been created with an ergonomic design to ensure the diodes are as close to the skin surface as possible to maximise energy transfer, whilst distant enough to ensure an even coverage across the treatment area. In addition, the wavelengths of light used; blue 415nm, red 630nm and Infrared 830nm have been chosen to maximise the benefit to the recipient, whilst offering increased safety. The OPERA LED Mask was chosen by skin specialist, Dr Ayanna Knight, as each mode of treatment is enhanced with the addition of Infrared light of 830nm wavelength. Infrared light penetrates deeper into the skin than the visual 415nm and 630nm wavelength light, delivering light therapy benefits to the lower epidermal and dermal layers of the skin.

The different colour lights generated by the OPERA Mask for LED Light Therapy are designed to target specific clinical conditions. Unlike many other systems, the OPERA LED Mask can combine Red and Blue Light Therapy providing treatment for complex skin using both wavelengths which have a visual appearance of pink light. Our clinic has successfully improved the skin of clients with challenging, complex facial skin conditions such as mixed Acne and Psoriasis.

The OPERA LED Light Mask also offers a 4th treatment modality utilising a Galvanic current. Whilst originally invented as a treatment for facial palsy, microcurrent therapy has been used in aesthetics, where it is often known as facial toning or non-surgical face lifting, for its advantages in skin tightening and rejuvenation.

Galvanic technology works by delivering microcurrent pulses to the skin which instantaneously open pores in the skin. This mode of treatment is used in conjunction with the Hydrogel Mask, a hydrating mask packed full of viatmins & nutrients. The changing charge of the Galvanic current actively pushes nutrients and products through the skin barrier and into the deeper layers of the epidermis. This Galvanic current mode can be used as an independent treatment regime or in combination with LED light therapy

What are the Benefits of Galvanic Current Treatment?

  • Increased blood & lymph circulation
  • Enhanced penetration of active ingredients of skin care formulations
  • Collagenesis and increased elastin production
  • Elevated protein synthesis, gluco-neogenesis and cell membrane transport

Light Therapy Facial

A light therapy facial is a gently light treatment that is suitable for the face and neck. It has clinical proven results and is often used as an alternative to laser and IPL as it is less aggressive with no downtime and totally painless.

It is also generally a less expensive, more natural, way to increase collagen, treat acne, lock in moisture to the skin and even-out the complexion as a whole leaving many clients with the celebrity driven “Hollywood glow” as seen with an OPERA LED facial therapy treatment.

Some the advantages of an LED therapy facial are

Increased collagen and elastic production

Reduced appearance of sun damage skin and freckles

Reduced blemishes and hyperpigmentation

Decreased appearance of spider veins & broken capillaries

Fading of age and liver spots

Diminishing fine lines & wrinkles

Control of acne and bacterial infection
